AUTISM INCLUSION AWARD

AUTISM INCLUSION AWARD

We are delighted to share that Moorlands has been awarded the Autism Inclusion Award by the National Autistic Society. This prestigious recognition provides independent and national validation of our commitment to creating an environment where autistic children and young people can thrive.

We are incredibly proud of the inclusive culture we have built at Moorlands, the high-quality teaching we provide, and our unwavering commitment to meeting the needs of every child. Our whole-school approach to inclusion ensures that all children benefit from a nurturing, understanding and supportive environment, enabling them to feel happy, healthy and safe.

You may have noticed the exciting development of our new play area, known as the Inclusive Space, in the lower playground outside the Infant Hall.

We are especially proud to be the first school outside the South East of England to receive a significant grant from the National Autistic Society, generously donated by The Medlock Charitable Trust, to design and create this unique space. The project reflects our belief that every child should feel valued, included and able to access play and social opportunities in ways that meet their individual needs.

The design has been shaped by the voices of our Moorlands children, who told us that they would like more calm, quiet places to play, spend time with friends and take a break from the busyness of the playground when needed. In response, the Inclusive Space provides opportunities for play, connection and creativity, alongside carefully designed areas where children can regulate, recharge and find calm. This ensures that all children have access to spaces that support their wellbeing and help them feel ready to learn.

We were recommended for this opportunity by the Specialist Autism Support Service (SASS) in Bath and North East Somerset, who recognised Moorlands as a beacon of inclusive practice and high-quality provision for children and families.
